1、Abrasive Material

Abrasive is the mainest material in abrasive tools, because it directly grinds workpiece. There are two kinds of abrasive: Diamond & Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN).
1. Diamond is the hardest material and can be divided into different types according to the shapes and intension, and suitable for processing various hard and brickle material.
2. CBN is another kind of superhard abrasive, its hardness is only lower than diamond while its thermal stability and chemical inertia are better, and suitable for grinding and processing ferrous metal .

  2、Grain Size

Grain size is the distinguish for the thickness of abrasive, according to the size of material , we divid the grain size into 33 types:
 35/40,40/45,45/50,50/60,60/70,70/80,80/100,100/120,120/140,140/170,170/200
 200/230,230/270,270/325,325/400;36-54,22-36,20-30,12-22,10-20,8-12,6-12,
 5-10,4-8,3-6,2.5-5, 2-4,1.5-3,0-2, 0.5-1.5,0.5-1,0-0.5,0-1,0-0.5
The choose of grain size will directly affect the grinding efficiency and thickness degree of workpiece, general speaking, if grain size is thin, the workpiece will be less rough , and if grain size is thick , the workpiece can grind more , therefore choosing thick grain size tools is proper once roughness is enough .

  3、Bond

Bond can make abrasive tools grind workpiece efficiently by its function of stickness and holding. For general bond, there are four main categories: resin bond, vitrified bond, metal and electroplated bond.

Bond
Code
Main Feature and Usage
Metal
M
Sintered with powder of copper, stanum, silver, cobalt and mill etc, having strong combination, well wear resistance and long life with bearing larger burthen.
Vitrified
V
Made from vitrified material, having well wear resistance, self-sharpness and suiting high precision grinding and high efficient grinding of common material and special material.
Resin
B
Usually use phenolic resin, polyamide resin, having well self-sharpness, heatless, high grinding efficiency and wide application range.
Electroplated
Me
Abrasive is covered on substrate by electroplating to make various complex tools. such as amending tools, grinding plates etc, and having strong grinding ability and high precision.

4、Concentration

The concentration is the scale of abrasive in whole grinding layer. The choose of concentration should depend on the shape, grain size & bond of tools, also the workpiece and grinding method, such as:
1. For resin bond, the concentration is 50%-100%, vitrified and metal is 75%-150%. electroplated is 200%.
2. Coarse grinding use high concentration, and semi-finished grinding & finished grinding use medium one, lapping & polishing use low one.
3. The abrasive tools with narrow grinding surface use high concentration, and same to channel grinding.
4. Long life abrasive tools require high concentration .
